Sometimes I Live On The Edge (Poem)

Sometimes I live on the edge

And it scares the hell outta me.

It's like an unexpected free fall

That I struggle to control

That suddenly grabs me by the throat

And says, "Who's the man now little boy?"

Then laughs a hideous, mocking laugh

And I come back to reality scared as hell.

I never mention it

To the ones who care about me.

Silence can cripple a big man.

Question of the Day

(Q)  Everyone of you has probably seen a teenage male or even some adult male parading around with their underware hanging out and their pants close to falling down. They think, I suppose, that it is cool. What do you think about it ?

IAFF Endorses Chris Dodd For President

The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) has endorsed Senator Chris Dodd (Dem.- Conn) for President. As an old fire fighter, this is of interest to me. The local in Charleston is Local 61 of which I was once a member. The election of a President is a very serious matter (or it should be) for the American people. It never ceases to amaze me that so many eligible voters choose not to exercise their franchise. They come up with all sorts of inane reasons for not taking a few minutes to vote and then bitch and moan ad nauseum when they get a President like GWB. If you want change people you have to get involved or else shut the hell up. I don't mean to be unkind, but get out there when the time comes and get your choice on record !! It is one of the responsibilities of citizenship.

A Parade To Honor The Charleston 9

I was sitting here at my computer and a bolt came out of the Blue. Why don't we (concerned citizens) have a parade to honor the Charleston 9 ? It would be a peoples' parade and the people would have an opportunity to visually and verbally thank the brave brothers of the CFD and let the powers that be know that this tragedy will never go away. Get the IAFF local involved too. It's an idea. Please let me know what you think !!

Name That Movie # 8

Due to popular demand by thousands of my readers, I am giving you all a new Name That Movie segment. Please try to name it before you Google it and most of all have fun.

(Q) What very popular American movie was based on English novelist Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness ?

Of Computer Viruses and Che Guevara

Read about a nasty computer virus over at Odat's Mumblings. And on a completely different topic awhile back there was a rumor floating around the Internet that Che Guevara was Jewish. Thanks to Meryl at Meryl Yourish.com for the information. You can nix the rumor folks, because it isn't true. Guevara was and does remain a dead Red.

Haiku # 083007 (Poem)

I often wonder

If anyone really reads

These little poems.

Places I Would Not Visit

(1)  New Orleans - I just read some comments that Katrina victims made about George W. Bush. They blamed him for the majority of their problems. I empathize with them and I am compassionate, but GWB didn't create the hurricane and what about that naybob Mayor Neigin and Loisiana's Governor and a lot of corrupt politicians . I always thought that New Orleans was a dirty, hedonistic sinkhole and that was before Katrina-so there is no way I will do the Mardi Gras beed necklace, bare boobs thing or eat the crawdads anytime soon.

(2)  Muslim Countries - With the state of the world today and Islamofascism I want to keep my head and/or all of my body parts. Enough said on the subject ! Now before anyone calls me terrible names and says that I am intolerant or anti Islam let me say that I am an advocate (and have been for most of my life) of freedom of religion. What I am against is coercion being used to expand a religion as well as intolerance.

(3)  Zimbabwe - Robert Mugabe has turned this nation into a hellpit and treats his people horribly. I doubt that a lot of tourists visit there now anyway come to think of it. Murder and oppression seem to inhibit such activity.

Names To Remember

I love names - especially ones that you can remember. The ones listed below are some of my favorites. Feel free to send me ones that you like.

(1)  Wavy Gravy - aka Hugh Romney, political activist and no he isn't a Mormon.

(2)  Snot Dog - blogger Odat's pooch. I just love that name !

(3)  Baba Ram Dass - aka Dr. Richard Alpert in the 1960's. He was a colleague of Dr. Timothy Leary.

(4)  Candy Samples - the all time greatest boob queen par excellance.

(5)  I. P. Freely - What can I say ? The cat had bladder problems.

(6)  Cornjulio - yours truly's alter ego.  Mezican to the bone.

(7)  Johnny Roten - this punker kinda smelled.

(8)  Chief Sitting Bull - well, the dude was tired.

(9)  Lotta Topp - think "bigguns" to quote Al Bundy.

(10)  Flozell Adams - NFL lineman aka "Hotel Flozell."
