Some of you may know that my favorite philosopher is Seneca ( Lucius Annaeus Seneca) who was born in what is now Spain circa 4 A.D. and was compelled by Emperor Nero to commit suicide in 65 A.D.. When I read Seneca's Letters from a Stoic it had a profound effect on me. The book is a series of letters addressed to a young friend of Seneca's and it exhibits Stoic philosophy in a manner that we can all understand. Stoicism is a philosophy that still has meaning today. This book also presents the man Seneca to us-a man all too human but yet a virtuous man. I have blogged about him previously, but he is like a friend whom I cannot ignore. read the book if you get a chance. As a philosopher myself, I highly recommend it for your perusal
