I have said on my blog repeatedly that the Forth Estate aka "the media" has let the people, whom it purports to serve and inform, down. Media personalities have taken precedence over reporting the news factually and witout bias. And, sad to say the facts are often distorted to serve a particular cause or point of view. Those who control the media have as much power as Wall Street tycoons or powerful politicians. Noam Chomsky, the eminent linguist and philosopher put it into perspective when he said, " Any dictator would admire the uniformity and obedience of the U.S. media. " I concur.

One problem I see is people need to understand a lot of the 'news' programs are more magazines as they don't cover the daily news so much as political stories particularly those that suit their agenda-- both sides. CNN is probably more of a straight news program but they are sooooooo boring that I can't stick with them for more than fifteen minutes before I feel I was watching a PBS show. I get my news from newspapers online. Then I like commentary for some of those cable shows and blogs. But straight news shows are rare.
