Today I learned about an organization called Floating Doctors. It was founded by a young M.D. Benjamin LaBrot and it does medical work in Central America and the Caribbean. It operates from a 76 foot ship called the Southern Wind and all the crew are volunteers and medical supplies are donated. Floating Doctors serve remote coastal regions some of which have no medical care at all. Floating Doctors has a website that may interest you. They are actually doing something positive to help people who need the help desperately. I would love to have our federal government take note !

I had never heard of this. Some of the doctors here volunteer in a different country. They are called "Doctors without Borders." My eye doctor does this, usually one month a year.

I have never heard of this either. But our Government has a program like this. We have several ships full of Sailors and Marines that when they pull into a harbor they are the biggest emergency room and surgical suite in the city. They often treat locals with problems that they could not get care for otherwise.

True Ing66 but Floating Doctors are to be commended. My hat is off to our service men and women, but the government cannot be all things to all people as a lot of Americans would prefer. The military is drawing down and the bad economy impacts what the federal government can do.
