Whether you are a Catholic or of any religious persuasion, I recommend for your viewing pleasure The Way which came out in 2010. The movie, directed by Emilio Estevez, is about the Camino de Santiago - the way of Saint James - which has been a pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela for over a thousand years. Martin Sheen stars in the movie as an American Doctor who receives word that his son ( played by his real life son Emilio Estevez ) has been killed while on the 500 mile road to Santiago. He decides to make the pilgrimmage for his dead son and himself. I can identify with the thesis of this movie because I recently completed a pilgrimmage to Molokai (Hawaii) to visit St, Damien the leper priest of Molakai's churches and the leper colony at Kalaupapa. It is profoundly spiritual and illuminating. Watch this film if you can.

Shirley MacLaine made that trek. It's a tough one demanding a lot of stamina and some suffering. She wrote about it with, of course, a different perspective in her book which I think is called The Camino. One of the people who reads my blogs made the trek also. Her blog is in my blog roll not that she is constantly writing about it. It's called Santiago Dreaming. It sounds like a good film but watching one about losing my son or daughter, they are off my agenda as that's the fear of a parent and i just cannot bear to think about it even with a good film at the base. I bet it's good though

It is a good film. What can compare to the loss of one's child ? The pain must be beyond words.
