When you have an appointment at your doctor's office you have to deal with the office staff for referrrals, making new appointments et cetera. They do the non-medical work for the doctors. For some readon in my case, I have problems with them. I have to call to ask why a referral that was ordered by my doctor wasn't made and I have to be persistent or it will not be made. It may seem to be a tempest in a tea pot, but it concerns my health care and it matters to me. Why do I have to do their work for them ? Do any of you have to deal with this issue ?

My anxiety with doctor's appointments is often the result of the uncaring support staff. I have a diabetic friend who missed an appointment with his endocrinologist. When his insulin ran out, he had no refills, so called the office, and was told that he needed to make an appointment, but would have to wait two months to see the doctor. When asked about the insulin refill, he was told that he should have kept the missed appointment. In desperation, he came to me to get the same insulin I take until he could see a new doctor in ten days. This was a life threatening situation and is really a case of malpractice.
